Pinrose Cruelty Free Fragrances

Pinrose-0003.jpg

I will readily admit that I am not a fragrance person. I love things that smell good, but perfume has never really appealed to me and occasionally gives me headaches (I suffer from minor migraine once in a while as well). Of course that doesn’t stop me from sniffing every bottle I pass or spritzing on the random tester here and there. I almost always conclude that it’s just not for me. Some of the more natural perfumes (a la The Body Shop and Pacifica) suit me a bit better, but they don’t last well enough to make it worth much effort. Well. Consider my world upheaved! I have come across a brand that has not only surprised me with perfume scents that I like and that actually last, but also a type of scent I typically hate! Let me introduce you to the brand Pinrose.

Pacifica HAUL – Fragrances, Diffusers & Nail Polishes

I don’t usually do hauls on the blog, but I figured since I recently ordered and received these items from Pacifica, I would share some mini reviews. I am always curious to get others’ opinions about how these fragrances smell, but rarely find much info about them online. Though there is a small selection available at Target and Ulta, I don’t see many of the scents in stores. Since I can now smell a few more for myself, I thought I’d share my thoughts. Let’s dive in to the gorgeous box that contained (almost) everything and get to sniffing! J

If you’re not already familiar with Pacifica, here’s a brief primer. Pacifica initially sold mainly fragranced products, but has since branched out into some skincare, a rapidly growing lineup of color cosmetics, as well as nail polishes. They are not only 100% cruelty free, but they are also completely Vegan!!! Quite unusual for a company with fragrance at its core. They are apparently the only entirely recyclable brand on the market too! How amazing is that? In addition to all that amazingness, Pacifica also donates a portion of the proceeds from each item to support clean water. I absolutely lovethe ethics behind this brand and want to love everything just for that.

So, here’s what I ordered and the scent descriptions from Pacifica’s site:
Island Vanilla Reed Diffuser “Inspired by the unique magic of Tahitian Vanilla, this sensual blend sets sweet and sultry Vanilla Absolute, with Honey-Jasmine notes and a touch of Fruitiness, against a deep and beautiful base of Tea.”
Hawaiian Ruby Guava Reed Diffuser“Inspired by a surfing trip to Hawaii, this sexy and sultry tropical blend combines sweet, berry-like notes of Guava with a bright, citrusy top note of Pomelo and a warm and subtle Coconut base.”
California Star Jasmine Perfume Roll-On“Dreamy, beautiful Star Jasmine is woven into subtle, lush Driftwood notes. Bright Orange shines at the top. Carefree and sun-kissed.”
Tibetan Mountain Temple Solid Perfume“Vetiver and Indonesian Patchouli are the base of this tranquil, incense-like blend, while Ginger sits lightly in the middle and Orange provides expansive lift for these distinctive essential oils.”
Custom Spray Perfume Gift Set with the following scents:
Tuscan Blood Orange Perfume “In this delectable blend, juicy and spicy Blood Orange is offset with subtle Strawberry and Raspberry notes and grounded in fleshy Mandarin and Italian Sweet Orange. An orange connoisseur’s dream.”
French Lilac Perfume “Perfumed in a traditional French style, this fresh scent conjures spring with a blend of Lilac, Magnolia Leaves, Heliotrope, Ylang Ylang, Hyacinth, and subtle notes of Nectarine. This is truly the best Lilac ever.”
Persian Rose Perfume “Our blend of Bulgarian Rose, subtle Violet, Myrrh and delicate Fruit is a nod to the floral empire of the Persians, the kings of perfume in the 9th century. Spiritual, elegant and classic.”
7 Free Nail Polish in Crystal Orchid
7 Free Nail Polish in Afterglow
Firstly let me say that I’m not really a fragrance person (looks that way from my order, huh?). It’s one of those things that I always forget about and never really want to spend money on. However, I absolutely love things that smell good, so perfumes appeal to me in a strange way. A lot of more easily accessible perfumes are either so strong or so artificial that I end up either feeling suffocated or with a migraine. Pacifica’s scents are quite the opposite. They are quite light and pretty true to nature. Knowing this and because of the beautiful scent descriptions, I obviously ordered a few!
So on to the “mini” reviews. Firstly, the Reed Diffusers. I ordered these because I love having a nice smelling living space, but am a bit terrified by candles. Reed diffusers seem the perfect option. If you don’t know what a reed diffuser is, they are basically bottles of a scented oil that you place reeds into to carry the scent and disperse it throughout a room. I’ve never really used one before, but I’m intrigued. J I am definitely a vanilla kind of girl, so I immediately opened the Island Vanilla(I have the perfume version of each scent and I love them both). My first observation was that it smelled a bit different from the perfume and I didn’t like it quite as much. I set it up, but had to dismantle it shortly after because it was a lot more powerful than I expected! It was reallystrong. Not in a bad, way, I just needed to move it to a more central location. It definitely works and will easily scent a large area. Now that it’s more centrally located, it has a consistent scent that doesn’t seem to overpowering any one part of the space. I’m not sure I would recommend this for a smaller area like a bathroom or small apartment. If any of you have ideas about how to maybe tone it down a notch – fewer reeds maybe? – please let us know!
Moving on to the actual fragrances. So many of Pacifica’s perfume descriptions sound incredible to me, but I really have no idea how they will actually smell. I’m not a scent expert, but I know what I like when I smell it! I’m typically not a floral person either, but they’ve grown on me lately. Pacficia’s descriptions make most of their florals sound like beautiful blends with fruits, greenery and sweets. I felt like I would enjoy them, plus I really liked the Custom Spray Perfume Gift Setidea. With the set, you can choose three scents for a smidge more than the price of two separately. Sold! J
I already knew that I loved the Tuscan Blood Orange because I have a sample of the lotion. It is a really complex and delicious orange. Not at all bathroom cleaner-esque. It’s rich and warm with a smidge of spice, while keeping that bright uplifting citrus vibe. It’s quite beautiful, complex, cheery and still somehow simple. I knew that was going into my box!
The French Lilac Perfume smells exactly like fresh lilacs. If I could have remembered what lilacs smelled like when ordering, that would have been helpful. One spray and the smell of fresh lilacs suddenly flooded back to me. It is literally that spot-on! J Though it is a beautiful, light spring-y fresh true lilac fragrance, I’m not sure I will wear it terribly often. I smells really nice, I’m just not sure that it’s me.
The Persian Roseis definitely not your grandmother’s rose. I have grown to like the scent of roses over the years, but it’s not my absolute favorite scent. I definitely prefer them on the light side. This one definitely fits into that category. It is a rather complex scent that is not just rose, though I wouldn’t be able to tell the other notes if I hadn’t read the description. I think I do smell a touch of fruit and something a bit more grounded (probably the Myrrh). It’s pretty, subtle and a modern version of rose. It’s not my all-time favorite scent, but it’s pretty and I do like it.
The California Star Jasmine sounded lovely. Since I had absolutely no idea what to expect, I went for the roll-on. To me, it just smells clean. It actually smells a bit like soap. You know that clean, just washed scent? It reminds me of that. Not what I expected, but I think I like it.
The Tibetan Mountain Temple was the biggest surprise to me. Again, I wasn’t sure I would like it because I’m not a fan of Patchouli and I don’t really love incense. There isn’t a roll-on, so I went with the solid. This is by far my favorite of all the scents and I think I will definitely be ordering a full-size spray! J I’m not sure I smell the description at all. I kind of get the incense reference, but it doesn’t smell like the incense I’m accustomed to. I smell something warm and comforting with a subtle sweetness and a touch of spicy. I think of cardamom and vanilla with maybe a touch of cloves. It is so delicious! Not really a spring/summer kind of scent, but I love it! J
Overall, though I’m not 100% in love with all of the perfume scents, I do like them. They are all very nice scents that smell pretty much similar to what I would have guessed, and they’re perfect for spring. I need a change and am way too enthusiastic about spring (hurry up already!), thus all the a-typical florals. J
The two odd-ball 7 Free Nail Polishes are better seen than described. J They’re both gorgeous spring shades…anyone sensing a theme? I received a Pacifica polish in an Ipsy bag (Red Red Wine, which is stunning!) and I was really impressed by the formula, so I felt the need to try out some more shades. The formula didn’t disappoint, at least for Crystal Orchid. It’s quite a thick polish in that it has fantastic coverage with the first coat. It’s wonderful to apply and the handle of the brush is not only pretty, but the nice pattern gives the handle an interesting rubberized-like grip. Definitely great polishes.
Afterglow & Crystal Orchid
That’s it for my Haul. Hope You’ve enjoyed this minor tangent today! If you missed my earlier review of the Perfume in Hawaiian Ruby Guava, check it out here. If you have a favorite Pacifica product, or any suggestions for products I should try (I already have the Roll-On Indian Coconut Nectar, which is also amazing, and the Mexican Cocoa Perfume which is a nice and unusual spicy, sexy scent), please let me know.

Switching It Up For Fall – Making Up My Makeup Bag

September is here and so is the unofficial start of Fall. As the seasons change, so do the makeup shades I reach for. When the weather gets colder and the days grow shorter, I find myself wanting to feel warm, comfy and cozy. The makeup shades of Fall often mimic this, meaning the brights get shoved to the side in favor of warm chocolates and deep berries. So in preparation for the dwindling daylight and the hint of winter chill in the air, it’s time for a makeup bag makeover! To see a few ways my makeup bag changes for the season, keep reading! J

Nails are the first thing that come to mind for me. I ditch the loud, bold hues for the more traditional Fall berries, rich neutrals, and deeper tones of navy and green. My favorite of the moment is Zoya’s Moxie (which also happens to be the name of one of my cats! Not gonna lie, that’s kinda why I bought it). It’s a beautiful berry that’s not too dark, nor too bright (Try as I might, I couldn’t get the picture to look less red and more berry as it is in person). Regardless, it’s absolutely gorgeous and I’d highly recommend it, especially for this transitional portion of Fall!

Moving on to the face. In the Summer, my blush is all about the corals, peaches, pops of pink and just all around brighter tones. Like most, when that telltale crisp chill enters the air, I almost immediately grab for the berries and an occasional reddish hue. Are we noticing a trend here? J One of my favorite berry-toned Fall blushes is from 100% Pure and it is their Fruit Pigmented Blush in – shocker here –  Berry.” These blushes are 100% Natural as well as Vegan, and “Berry” is just a gorgeous shade that’s not tooplummy, but not too bright either. I also really love Tarte’s 12-Hour Amazonian Clay Blush in “Natural Beauty” for more of a reddish I-just-came-in-from-the-cold kind of flush. Both are beautiful choices and perfectfor chillier days filled with multi-colored leaves crunching under your feet.
Sticking with the berry trend, I’m gonna move on to lips. The many pinks and the occasional bright I favor in the Summer collect dust, while I haul out the berries and reds. For a softer, subtle lip that still has that berry tone, I love Lipstick Queen’s Hello Sailor Lipstick. I reviewed it earlier this week, so you can see that here, but don’t be shocked to see that the lipstick is actually blue! It gives a beautiful wash of berry that’s perfect for anytime of day in the Fall. If you’re looking for a more full-on color, try something like Butter London’s new Lippy Moisture Matte Lipstick in “Ruby Murray.” Not only is this lipstick gorgeous, but it is one of the most comfortable matte lipsticks I have ever tried! For my favorite red, I’d probably go with the Lip Tar in “Stalker” from OCC. Kind of a pain to deal with since it needs to be applied with a brush, but it’s worth it! Whether you prefer a subtle lip or more of a statement, these are definitely my favorites this time of year!
Eye liner is a bit more boring in terms of a change…at least for me. I tend to grab for my standard blacks and browns, but to mix things up a bit I like adding in a navy like Urban Decay’s 24/7 Velvet Glide On Eye Pencil in “Minx,” which is a deep, rich, matte navy. It’s still dark, but has a subtle hint of color and will help make the whites of your eyes look whiter! Some other shades to try out this Fall are metallic bronzes, coppers and golds. I feel like these shades are always fantastic for a Fall eye. If you’re looking for more color, swap out the bright teals for jewel toned deep greens and rich, smoky purples. Basically, if you’re seeing it in Fall fashions, it’s probably a decent color to try on your eyes…at least as an accent.
There are two eye shadow palettes that I feel are perfect this time of year. Both of them give you tons of options and can be worn day or night. The first is Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar Palette. Though it is a pretty neutral palette, it has a fantastic pop of burgundy, a medium purple, and some gorgeous bronzes, chocolates and golds. Not to mention the chocolate scent that just screams warm and cozy. If you love your neutrals, but want some colorful jewel tones as well, I can’t think of a better palette than Urban Decay’s Smoked Palette. It’s an absolutely gorgeous palette that fits the bill for colorful Fall eyes, as well as more neutral looks that can be either daytime appropriate or built up for a night out. Either way, you’re getting amazing quality shadows in Fall-appropriate shades. Win, Win!
Finally, though I’m not much a fragrance girl, I definitely hunger for a change in scents as the leaves turn. Again, the warm, cozy and often foody type scents win my heart. A fantastic cruelty free scent option that I love this Autumn is from Pacificaand it is their Mexican Cocoa Perfume. It smells so good! Pacifica describes it as a mix of Mexican Cocoa with bitter Almond, Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Vanilla. The scent doesn’t last all day, but it’s worth reapplying. And mix it with a bit of vanilla (try Pacifica’s Island Vanillaor The Body Shop’s Vanilla) for a fantastic custom blend! You will smell delicious, unexpected, and a bit exotic! J

That pretty much does it for my Fall-ready makeup bag. Nothing earth shattering in there, but I definitely crave a change with the ever-changing weather. I think we can agree that the theme here is brights are out, berries are in. JI’d love to hear how your makeup bag changes with the seasons. And if you have any recommendations, please leave them as a comment since we all need inspiration to feed this addiction! J Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed this rifle through my Fall makeup bag.

Pacifica’s Hawaiian Ruby Guava – How I was Converted to a Perfume Fan

I’m generally not one for perfumes, though I absolutely adore scented body lotions, shower gels, scrubs, what have you. I suppose that’s fortunate for me since it can be pretty hard to find a cruelty-free perfume! But fear not my fragrance loving fellow cruelty-free (and even Vegan!) friends – there’s always Pacifica Perfume! I don’t really know why, but the mood stuck me to buy a fragrance recently (in fact I grabbed…well, ordered…2). My choices included the Hawaiian Ruby Guava Perfume, which is a bit of an old standby from Pacifica I believe. I had a mini set in this scent that included a lotion, a rollerball and a lip balm. I decided the scent was perfect for Spring and Summer and set about snagging a full size spray perfume. So, here it is in my silly little hands! J

For starters, if you’re not familiar with Pacifica, they are a fantastic brand for those seeking not only cruelty-free, but Vegan options as the entire range is Vegan!!! I believe most, if not all, of the products are also paraben-free, phalate-free and glycol-free (this perfume is at least). They began with scented products and have amassed an insane amount of perfume and candle scents that sound so intriguing! They have branched out into body care products and, most recently, into makeup! Basically, there’s something for everyone. J

Now back to the Perfume. The Pacifica spray perfumes are a rather standard 1-ounce size that is contained in a nice glass bottle. They have a print in a design and color that coordinates with the scent in the bottle, so if you have 100s of them, it might be a tiny bit easier to find what you’re after. JThe spray top is pretty basic and simple – there’s no cap, so if you’re planning to travel with the scent, you may want to save the box to keep it safe during transport. It sprays out a fine mist, just like any other perfume. The ingredients (at least in the Hawaiian Ruby Guava) are quite simple, which is nice as well. The ingredients are: Alcohol Denat. (natural grain), Parfum (Pacifica’s own fragrance blend with natural and essential oils) and Aqua (water). In addition, the perfume is made in the USA and, again the Hawaiian Ruby Guava version, allocates a portion of the proceeds to support clean water. Pretty cool, no?! J

So let’s get into the scent itself, right? I’m horrid at describing scents so I will give you the website description. “Inspired by a surfing trip to Hawaii, this sexy and sultry tropical blend combines sweet, berry-like notes of Guava with a bright, citrusy top note of Pomelo and a warm and subtle Coconut base.” It smells delicious! It is bright and vibrant, and just makes me think of warm breezes and sandy beaches. To me, it smells like a tropically sweet and fruity subtle floral. I don’t quite know where I get a hint of flowers, but for some reason the combination gives me a very subtle tropical floral note. It is definitely a predominantly fruity scent with a tropically surprising bend. I think the coconut may be making me think faint floral for some reason, because it doesn’t have an overtly coconut scent. Anyway! If you like tropical fruity scents with a touch of something unexpected, this is a great scent for you!

Though the scent is fantastic, I’m not going to like it as much if I have to spray if hundreds of times a day to notice it. Well, the Hawaiian Ruby Guava literally lasts all day on me! Seriously, I spray it on in the morning and it’s still noticeably there pretty much until bedtime! Not overpoweringly so, but it’s still almost as detectable as after the initial dry down. The other thing I am really impressed by with this scent is that it doesn’t seem to change much, if at all, on my skin. The smell in the bottle is what I get, which is fantastic! Nothing more frustrating than loving a scent, but having it smell like raw sewage once you wear it! J I have nothing bad to say about this perfume! I am seriously in love with it!

Bottom line? I reallylove the Pacifica Hawaiian Ruby Guava Perfume. It is a tropically delicious and sweet, yet unexpected and unusual fruity fragrance that lasts and lasts without changing on my skin. It is becoming a new addiction!!! JAnd there are so many intriguing scent blends on their website that I’m already itching to try more. I wish they had a little sample size so you could just see what it smells like – or even just sprayed cards that they could mail to you. That would be fantastic! JThere are a few stores, like Whole Foods and Ulta carries a limited selection of products (not the spray perfumes), where I have seen the actual perfumes available, but the selection always seems rather limited. If you’re looking for a new perfume that’s cruelty-free andvegan, check out Pacifica – they’re also quiteaffordable as well ($22 each)!!! Love, love, love the Hawaiian Ruby Guava Perfume! J

Check out the amazing scents available on Pacifica’s website (referral link), as well as their ever expanding range of products. The Hawaiian Ruby Guava Perfume (and all their full-size perfumes) retail for $22 per 1-ounce bottle.
