This weekend begins the unofficial start to Summer!!! We all know what that means…more sun, more fun and more bare skin. Many of us choose to wear dresses or shorts and don’t want a mess of long leg hair sticking out – if you don’t mind, then you do you! No judgement from me…that sounds freeing actually, but for me I prefer to keep the leg hair to a minimum. So today I thought I would share just how I keep my legs hair free for as long as possible…and with as little effort as possible! 😉 It’s actually quite simple and relatively inexpensive, though this particular option is not vegan if that’s a deal breaker for you. There are vegan options out there, just none that I know if in this exact form. What am I referring to? Well….
Though the weather here has been a bit deceiving since I didn’t see the sun for most of May, do not be fooled! Summer is on its way!!! With warmer temperatures and longer days comes more exposed skin. I don’t know about you, but I want my skin to be as soft and smooth as possible! So today I’m going to share with you all my tips and tricks for getting your softest, smoothest Summer-ready skin! And bonus, they’re pretty much all on the more natural side and definitely affordable! 😉
The first step to getting smooth legs and also prepping for a closer shave is to exfoliate. Personally I don’t find the standard sugar scrubs to do a good enough job on my skin, though I’m sure they’re fantastic for plenty of you out there. My absolute favorite ways to remove the old and bring out the new is either with dry brushing or the more intense scrub that is frank. I have discussed both before, so I will just briefly touch on them here. Dry Brushing is basically a technique that requires brushing a somewhat stiff body brush (check out my review of the new EcoTools one here) over dry skin to exfoliate dead skin cells and improve blood circulation to the skin. It’s a fantastic way of getting soft, healthy skin without a huge fuss or mess. The epic scrub known simply as frank I actually find to be a bit more intense (to read all about frank, check out my review here). frank is a physical body scrub made with mainly coffee grounds, sea salt and various oils that you use in the shower. I find it to be a bit less convenient than dry brushing, but I really, really love frank! JIt smells so delicious and it also helps to moisturize the skin while scrubbing away the old skin. No matter what method you prefer, exfoliating the skin is key to getting the smoothest, softest skin.
EcoTools’ new Dry Body Brush is very well designed. It has a round bamboo base with gentle yet firm cruelty free synthetic fiber bristles. There is also a cloth strap attached to the back to make it even easier to hold. The size is perfect in that it’s not too big to fit in your hand, nor is it too small to cover large areas of your body in one go. The bristles, though firm enough to remove dead skin, are somehow still soft on the skin. I think part of the secret is that the bristles are not too densely packed, allowing them to spread out and move a bit while in use. I would have to say it is quite possibly the perfect dry brush! Plus, it’s aesthetically pleasing. J
Firstly, if you’re still a tiny bit confused (which I doubt since you’re all amazing and intelligent people, but my dad was lost when I tried to explain this), frank is a coffee-based body scrub that is intended to be used in the shower. The marketing around this product is sheer genius in my opinion. The scrub is made to sound like a real person and after ordering, you’ll receive updates about where frank is on “his” journey. The back of the package says:
- like scrub away dry, flaky skin with my roasted robusta coffee and sea salt blend, leaving you feeling soft and smooth.
- I’ll cleanse and clarify with brown sugar, coconut flakes and coconut oil.
- Then I’ll soothe, moisturize and tone with grape seed oil and jojoba beads.
- I’ll love every inch of your bod, because that’s just the kind of guy I am.”
