I’m a bit of a body moisturizer freak and am constantly trying out new creams, oils, lotions and potions. My recent go-to has been the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, but I have also been intrigued by the Prtty Peaushun  Skin Tight Body Lotion for quite some time. Given what I’ve heard from other reviews, it sounded as though the two may have similar formulations so I thought that I would compare the two today! So, to see my thoughts…and if I have a preference, keep on reading!

So let’s start with just a mini review of each moisturizer – and of course, both are cruelty free. We’ll go with the first I tried, which is the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. If you’ve heard much about this body cream, it is probably best known for its divine tropical vanilla-caramel-coconut scent. I love this warm Summery scent, but it is strong. The cream itself has a very subtle sheen that is really only noticeable in the sunlight and it really makes the skin glow and look just that little bit extra. I believe it is also meant to kind of “blur” the skin. To add to the better-than-real-life effect, this cream also contains a skin-tightening ingredient called Guarana extract which is high in caffeine and supposedly helps to tighten and firm the skin (I notice pretty much nothing on that front). You get 8.1oz / 240mL in a cool rounded edge tub for $45. Pricey, I know (both of these moisturizers are). It is a semi-thick cream that I would call a gel-cream as it sinks in almost like a gel, but with the qualities of a really good, hydrating thick cream. It is quite hydrating without being thick, heavy, greasy or sticky. In my book, it’s a definite win-win cream…price tag aside.

Now on to the Prtty Peaushun Skin Tight Body Lotion. Unlike the Bum Bum Cream, this comes in different “shades.” I purchased “Prtty Light” as I felt it would be most comparable to the Bum Bum Cream due to the shimmer. They also make a “Prtty Plain,” which I believe is shimmer-free, as well as the shimmering “Prtty Medium,” “Prtty Dark,” and “Prtty Deep” that add a touch of color too. Unlike the Bum Bum Cream, Prtty Peaushun is also Vegan and more of a “clean” or “green” product, so if that’s important to you there really is no choice between the two. As for the Peaumelo scent, it has what to me is kind of a “green” bamboo-like fragrance to me. Again, I find that it’s pretty strong and lingers. Like the Bum Bum Cream, the shimmer in the Prtty Peaushun is supposed to help blur and perfect the skin, and again it looks beautiful but I’m not sure it does any blurring. As for size, you receive 8oz / 236mL in an aluminum-BPA-free plastic squeeze pouch that allows you to get every last drop out, and it retails for $39. The consistency is again on the thicker side – more like a cream than a lotion – and I would call it kind of a gel-oil hybrid. It blends in quite nicely and is very moisturizing without being thick, heavy or greasy. However, I do find it on the sticky and tacky side…and that feeling lasts. I still feel tacky the next day. But now we have the basics out of the way, so let’s get into more of the compare and contrast.

Firstly, let me say that I think these are both great moisturizers. They absolutely get the job done. They’re not going to eliminate scaly, flaking skin, but for a good effective every day hydrating body moisturizer, you’re going to be happy. I think your main considerations are going to be the consistency and the scent…assuming you don’t require vegan and/or clean products.

As far as the appearance of each product, the “Prtty Light” Prtty Peaushun and the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream are pretty much identical on the skin. They both have a good amount of the finest of shimmers that just makes the skin glisten and glow in the best way possible. There’s no glitter here, just ultra-fine shimmer. Perfectly acceptable for all ages. However, if you want no shimmer or a tint with the shimmer, Prtty Peaushun wins between the two.

Another major difference that may be important to you is the scent. As I mentioned, the Bum Bum Cream has more of a warm kind of vanilla-caramel tropical fragrance that I really enjoy. It definitely lingers and is strong enough that others will likely smell it as you walk past…at least for maybe the first 4-5 hours after applying. If that’s not your thing, the Prtty Peaushun is kind of on the opposite spectrum with a rather fresh, green scent. Again, it is rather powerful and lingers for quite some time. It’s not quite as strong and long-lasting as the Bum Bum Cream, but it is noticeable for quite some time…and I actually kind of hate it! I don’t like saying that, but this is totally not a scent I enjoy, but everyone is different. You may love it and that’s wonderful because it is a great product. So for me at least, the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream wins in the scent department.

Next, and nearly most important for me, is how each cream / lotion applies. As I mentioned, both have kind of a gel-hybrid kind of consistency, with the Bum Bum Cream being a bit more cream-like and the Prtty Peaushun having more of an oil-like feel. Though both absorb into the skin beautifully, though I find that the Bum Bum Cream is a bit easier to apply and I feel like it takes a bit less product to cover the skin. Something about the Prtty Peaushun is – I hate to use this word, but it’s true – stickier and drags a bit more as you try to rub it into the skin.

I also find that, though I really like the idea of the pouch packaging of the Prtty Peaushun, in practice it’s kind of difficult to use. It won’t stand up as it’s malleable and I’m constantly having to mess with it a bit when I need to put it down to rub in the lotion. The Bum Bum cream pot is not without flaws either though because for some reason, the top is really difficult to get screwed back on properly. It doesn’t like to sit straight on the tub and is constantly ending up screwed on crooked. Neither of those is a deal breaker, but they are slight quirks that I thought I would point out. For me, the Bum Bum Cream is easier to deal with, but there’s nothing wrong with the Prtty Peaushun and I love that it’s more eco-friendly.

Last, and most important in my book, is the way each moisturizer feels on the skin. As mentioned, the Bum Bum Cream has what I would call a gel-cream consistency and I really enjoy it! It is hydrating, comfortable on the skin, absorbs pretty much instantly and is honestly a joy to apply. Unfortunately for me, the Prtty Peaushun does not fair quite so well. It is hydrating, absorbs super fast, and spreads out nicely – though as I mentioned, I feel like it takes a bit more product than I would like. My problem here is that it feels sticky. If you get dressed right after applying, even with baggy items, I find that I do stick to my clothes. I am not a fan of that feeling, but I can deal with it. Sadly that sticky and tacky feeling lasts…and lasts. I’m talking even 24 hours later my skin feels tacky. That is something I can’t deal with. I’ve been known to slather my body in coconut oil and even that doesn’t give me this sticky tacky sensation. Unfortunately the Prtty Peaushun’s texture is a deal breaker for me. I just can’t handle it, but that doesn’t make it a bad product and I know that plenty of people love it, I just want to share my experience.

So there you have it! The Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream and the Prtty Peaushin Skin Tight Body Lotion sounded so similar to me when reading reviews that I thought I would compare them. They absolutely have a lot of similarities, but are by no means identical. The appearance on the skin is pretty much the same, but the consistency, scent and packaging may just make that subtle difference that swings you one way or the other. Clearly I prefer the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, but I also see the appeal of the Prtty Peaushun. I hope this helps you decide between the two as they have similar hefty price tags, but I feel that they are almost worth it! 🙂 And if you’re on the fence, both do offer baby sizes to try out for a reduced cost as well! If you have tried either of these, let us know your thoughts and which you prefer. We would all love to know! Until next time, thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you again soon!!!
