If you’re after healthy glowing skin, you absolutely need to be exfoliating. Whether that be with a chemical or acid exfoliant or with a manual or “scrubby” exfoliator, this is the best beginning to removing those dead dull skin cells and reveal that fresh healthy glowing skin underneath. That said, I find that a really great exfoliator is hard to find! In particular, manual exfoliators are one of those goldilocks-type products that are often not scrubby enough or are way too harsh for even the toughest of skins. As my skin becomes increasingly sensitive and ever more dry (read into that more and more dry flaky skin that I really want removed!), I find it even more difficult and even more important to find a great exfoliator for the face. Being on Accutane, I cannot really use chemical exfoliants and I need to be very careful with manual ones as well. Finding something that’s not harsh, while still being effective has always been quite the challenge. But fear not! Today I am sharing with you the solution – the Odacité Jojoba Beads Exfoliant!!!

Let’s start with a bit more about Odacité because I found the origins interesting. According to their website, it began after a French woman living in California named Valerie Grandury was diagnosed with breast cancer. She sought to remove toxins from her life, but refused to sacrifice performance from her skincare. Unable to find what she wanted already on the market, Odacité was born in an effort to blend luxurious French skincare with green living. The company is, of course, cruelty free. The line is also vegan, non-toxic, organic, gluten-free, non-GMO, California made and PETA-approved. I haven’t tried much from the line, but I am really tempted by so many things! Luckily for me and my skin, I started with a great product that I’m absolutely loving…and desperately need!

I believe if you talk to any dermatologist (just for the record, I am NOT a doctor or a skincare expert, just a girl who loves the beauty stuffs) they will tell you that the safest way to manually exfoliate your skin at home is with jojoba beads. The reason for this is that they are perfectly spherical little wax beads created from jojoba wax (these are not the dreaded ocean-polluting plastic beads, but rather it is more like a variation on jojoba oil). The perfectly rounded shape of these beads is very gentle on the skin and because they don’t have any jagged or un-rounded surfaces, they do not cause microscopic tears in the skin that can damage tissue over time and can even result in scarring! These wonderful little beads can be highly effective, but in pretty much every jojoba bead-based scrub I’ve tried in the past, they have always lacked good scrubbing power. Yes, they are gentle, but I never feel as though they’ve done much….that is until I tried this wonderful and effective scrub from Odacité!

The Jojoba Beads Exfoliant is a somewhat thick cream-lotion texture that comes in a screw top pot. You simply scoop out a bit of the product – I use a small metal spatula to get a bit out without contaminating the rest of the pot – and gently massage the gentle, yet scrubby concoction over the skin. The creamy lotion in which the jojoba beads live spreads beautifully over the skin! You cannot really see the little scrubby beads in the gorgeous light cream, but you certainly can feel them! Oh I cannot tell you how excited I was to actually feel those scrubby little beads! They are not at all irritating, but they are most certainly there, gently sloughing away that dead skin and leaving behind the softest, baby-butt skin that will be the picture of health. After rubbing the glorious little bead-filled concoction over my face and neck for a minute or two, I simply splash it off with water until as many of the beads have been removed as possible. I will say that actually eliminating the skin of all beads is quite the challenge unless you’re in the shower, but by the time I have finished adding my oils and creams, I don’t see or feel them any longer. I suppose you could try a washcloth to help remove them as well, but I feel like that might be a bit too harsh so I personally haven’t tried it. Besides, I cannot see any remaining jojoba beads so I really don’t care if they’re hanging out for a bit. It is truly a delight to use!

If you’re interested in ingredients, the Jojoba Bead Exfoliant uses some of the finest! Here is the Ingredient List:

Aloe Vera (Organic), Coconut Oil (Organic), Jojoba Wax Beads, Jojoba Oil (Organic), Lavender (Organic), Emulsifying Vegetable Wax, Olive Oil (Organic), Palm Stearic Acid, Calendula Extract (Organic), Vegetable Glycerin, Rooibos Tea Extract (Organic), Vitamin E, White Tea Extract (Organic), Xanthan Gum

As you can see, this is not only chocked full of scrubbing goodness, but wonderfully gentle and soothing ingredients that are great no matter your skin type. The base containing the beads is kind of difficult to describe. It is a bit thick, but not like a cream and it spreads over the skin almost like a cleansing lotion. I guess describing it as loosely bound together makes the most sense to me, but not in a separated way. The scrub has a very subtle natural citrus scent that is pleasant, not bathroom cleaner-esque. It rinses away cleanly, but leaves a softer almost protected and more healthy feeling to the skin (there may be beads remaining, but as I’ve said, they disappear quickly and are not visible). Having now experienced both oilier and drier skin types, I truly believe this would work for anyone! It’s meant to be used once a week, though it seems gentle enough to me that 2-3 times a week for those scrub lovers out there should be able to scratch that itch without trouble.

I feel like the Odacité Jojoba Beads Exfoliant is a fantastic scrub for pretty much any skin type. It’s neither oily nor stripping, too harsh nor too rough, too thick or too thin. It’s just perfection! The jojoba beads are concentrated while remaining gentle even on my now dry and sensitive Accutane battered skin. This scrub leaves the skin so soft and smooth without making it red or irritated. In a way it almost feels soothed! It removes dry flaky skin with ease, leaving the skin ready to better absorb whatever products you apply next. It’s just the absolute perfect scrub and I am so so happy to have stumbled upon it!!!!

Each Odacité Jojoba Beads Exfoliant tub contains 1.7oz / 50mL and retails for $45 on the Odacité sitePetit VourThe Detox Market, and more I’m sure!
