Wow! What a month April was! I feel like so much has happened, but I couldn’t even begin to remember what. 😂 It’s been a good makeup month, if for no other reason there was the Sephora VIB Sale as well as a ton of Friends and Family sales…not to mention I am an Ulta Platinum member which gave me a 20% off coupon too! I guess not a great month for makeup lovers’ wallets! 💸 The stuff I’ve acquired is still being tested out (admittedly I have yet to even touch a lot of it!), though there is at least one that’s already a favorite. 😉 So without further ado, let’s get to my Cruelty Free Favorites for the month of April!!!
I’m going to start with my newest favorite because it’s skincare and that just makes sense. 😜 IT is the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm. I was in need of a new cleansing balm because my old favorite, the Bye Bye Makeup from IT Cosmetics, was nearly gone. I have been eying this one from Farmacy for quite a while and now was its moment in the sun. 😄 I thought the IT Cosmetics version was good, but the Farmacy Cleansing Balm is fantastic! For one it actually takes a bit less product and removes makeup even better. You don’t need water to really help get rid of the tougher makeup bits, though I would recommend rinsing it off. That’s just my preference though. My favorite thing about Farmacy’s Cleansing Balm is that it leaves my skin completely free of makeup without any trace of greasy residue, but still keeping the skin hydrated. It’s absolutely glorious stuff and I highly recommend it! As a quick packaging aside that adds to it’s beauty is that it comes with a spatula to scoop the product out with! Love, love, love the Farmacy Cleansing Balm!
Moving on to my foundation of choice this month which has been the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation. I initially got this wondering if it was similar to the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation. They both have that kind of annoying dropper packaging and the initial medium coverage is probably similar, but the Tarte Foundation has a natural-to-satin finish instead of the matte finish of the NYX. To be fair, I’ve been mixing the two together an awful lot with a touch of the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops for better coverage in areas that need it. The Tarte Foundation is very light and weightless on the skin, though I do get a bit shiny throughout the day. Nothing unusual there and it’s not as bad as most. I do tend to need a bit more coverage than it offers, but that’s where the Custom Cover Drop come in. You can build up the foundation a bit, but it’s still not quite enough for my worst trouble areas. All in all a great foundation (with a bit of tinkering) and I’ve been enjoying it this month! 😃
My go-to cheek products of the month are – get ready for it – affordable! 😄 For blush, there has been no other than the Milani Rose Powder Blush in “Awakening Rose.” Of course I just discovered that this particular shade is no longer available, but the formula itself is quite nice. I find that it has just the right amount of pigment – not too much, not too sheer. The texture is just right too – not too stiff, not too powdery and it blends wonderfully across the skin. I find that it lasts quite well too. I always find that describing blush is difficult. In a sense there’s not a lot to discuss! 😄 If you can find this shade still available, I highly recommend grabbing it because it is just a wonderful neutral, goes with anything kind of color. I suppose I would call it a dusty mauve-pink. It’s nice and neutral on the skin and I’ve reached for it pretty much whenever I’m wearing makeup.
For an affordable highlighter, I could not get enough of the Essence Pure Nude Highlighter in “Be My Highlight.” This is such a subtle highlighter, but it looks so natural and pretty on the skin! It can be built up a little bit, but it’s never going to give you a blinding highlight that’s noticeable from across a busy highway. 😄 The texture is quite firm, so I tend to use a denser brush than I often would for an intense highlighter. I’ve been reaching for the Makeup Geek Round Blush Brush with it. The two together produce that lovely lit-from-within naturally glowing effect that’s just perfect for every day! Again, another one not to miss…and so affordable!!! 😆
An absolute lifesaver for faking that “I’m awake” look has been the ColourPop Crème Gel Liner in “Honeydude.” Nothing too fancy here, just a nude-toned twist-up eye pencil. It’s creamy, pigmented and stays put…all the things you hope for in an eyeliner. 😜 I put this on my lower waterline which helps to cancel redness on that tiny bit of skin which can emphasize the fact that you didn’t sleep the night before. 😴 Since I haven’t been getting enough sleep, this genius little (affordable) pencil has helped disguise that! 😉 Thank you ColourPop for producing an affordable eye liner that stays put and is just the perfect shade to keep my eyes looking open, awake and not so red. 😘
Last product before my mass of lipstick favorites – the Ultimate Lash Icon Volumizing Mascara from Fiona Stiles! I purchased this while Ulta had the entire brand discounted to half price. I had never really hearing anything about it. I’m always interested in new mascaras, so why not? 😄 Anyway, I wouldn’t call this my all-time favorite mascara, but it is really good! The formula is on the drier side, but not overly so. I find that it adds a decent amount of volume and length without smudging, flaking or clumping! It also doesn’t weight down the curl of my lashes which can be a big deal for me. Ya know, aging and all! 😉 I’ve never had it look spidery or too thick and chunky, yet it still creates a nice amount of drama. It’s certainly not a natural mascara, but for me – who likes a lot of lash – it’s a great every day mascara. 😍
Now for the lipsticks! You may be aware that I really love the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipsticks, but I had trouble finding shades I really liked. Well, enter “Island Life,” “Surf’s Up,” “Daiquiri,” and “Popsicle!” Ok, maybe “Siesta” as well. 😳 Since I’ve already reviewed the formula, I won’t dwell on it. In a nutshell they are creamy, intensely pigmented, comfortable, and long-wearing in a demi-matte finish. Absolutely wonderful formula! As for the shades, “Popsicle” is a bright pink that is so much fun for Summer. “Daiquiri” is such a wearable orange that’s not too loud and also fantastic for Summer. “Island Life” and “Surf’s Up” are quite similar medium-toned natural shades with slightly different undertones. Are both necessary? Absolutely not, but I can’t choose one! 😂 Finally my newest acquisition is “Siesta” which is a great neutral in my eyes. It’s not a dead nude, but rather a good neutral my-lips-but-better kind of shade. All are great and I highly recommend giving them a go! Oooh! I forgot the prettiest part – the packaging is absolutely stunning as well! 😍
These last two lipsticks I will admit that I didn’t wear often – maybe once for each one this month. That said, I love them. The first is probably my favorite ColourPop Lippie Stix and it is in the shade “Frenchie.” I bring this out every Spring/Summer because it is a bright red that is, again, perfect for Summer. It’s quite comfortable, lasts really well (to be fair it actually stains and is difficult to remove), it’s affordable and just a great lipstick in both formula and shade. It has a matte finish and it’s one of those colors that helps put you in a better mood. 🙂 It is loud, but quite fun as well. I must say that ColourPop really does reds well! 💋
Finally, we have another Sephora VIB Sale purchase and it is a fancy smancy Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Crème Lipstick in the shade “Core Cora.” This is another seriously bright, loud, in-your-face color that I absolutely love! 😍 This time we’re going for an orangey-coral though so probably even less comfortable to most. 😄 I thought it would look terrible on me, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I like it! The formula is also absolutely wonderful! This is the first Marc Jacobs Lipstick that I’ve tried and it is comfortable, long-wearing, highly pigmented and surprisingly easy to apply. I would say that it has a demi-matte finish that is not at all drying. I might even dare to call it a bit hydrating! I kind of want to try more of these lipsticks because the formula seems so fantastic…but then there’s the $30 price tag! 😳 Who am I kidding? I’ll try more at some point. 😂 If you’re looking for a great wearable bright orange (is that an oxymoron? 😉) that is super comfortable, then I highly recommend giving “Core Cora” a go!
So there we have it! All the best cruelty free beauty bits from April! 😆 As a quick aside, I’ve also been trying to be more active on Instagram, even posting to InstaStories a fair amount this past month too! Check me out for bits of random life happenings (usually from the car), some of the pets, as well as cruelty free beauty-related things. Until then, I hope you’ve enjoyed this trip through all of my loves throughout the month of April. As always, thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you back again soon!!! 😘
