It’s time to hop in that time machine again and look back at old Favorites! The time frame should come as no surprise – July 2015. 😉 I had a fair number of favorites last year and even an unfavorite. In fact, I also had an entire Random Favorites post as well. We’re not going to go over the random stuff, but the beauty bits are worth revisiting! So, let’s go back in time to long, long ago (sensing my sarcasm here? 😉 ) and Revisit July Favorites 2015!
My first item last year is a nail polish. In fact, it’s a polish that I loved so much that I devoted an entire review to it! It is the shade “Sunday’s” from Ciate’s collaboration with Olivia Palermo. These polishes are expensive (at least I think so!). That said, something about the finish of them is just stunning and very much gel-like in appearance. Not to mention the color is an absolutely gorgeous pale baby pink that is just so elegant and lady-like. Totally not me, but I love this polish! Even the packaging is beautiful! I will say that it almost always requires 3 coats for me, but I don’t mind. Obviously I still love it and I was wearing this just a couple weeks ago! I do feel like you can find other polishes with a similar shade, but there actually is something about the finish that is unique in the polish world. Definitely still a fave! 🙂
My next favorite was (and is) my all-time favorite mascara…I think! It’s the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I say “I think” only because it’s been a while since I have actually opened a new tube of this so I’m going solely on memory. I’ve spoken about this mascara a lot and have a review if you haven’t heard enough yet. 😉 It give incredible dramatic lashes that are on the verge of clumpy…in the best way possible! If you’re looking for something similar at a fraction of the cost, try the Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara. The brush is entirely different, but the result is similar. Though it’s been a while since I’ve actually used the Too Faced Better Than Sex, I don’t feel I’ve found anything I like better…yet! 🙂
I had a second mascara which was the Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara (also reviewed). I was using this mainly on the lower lashes if I’m remembering correctly and did so for quite a while. Lately I’ve typically been using whatever mascara I’m currently trying. I just tried out the elf Mineral Mascara and I am surprised by how much I like it! In fact, it may be similar, but I’d have to test them both to be sure. Anyway, I do really enjoy the Tarte Mascara. From the bamboo packaging, to the brush, to the formula, it’s just a good all-around mascara. I gives a less dramatic look than I typically like, but it’s great for just throwing on when you’re not wearing much makeup…or even if you are and aren’t after super dramatic, slightly clumpy lashes. This doesn’t do that. It does a bit of lengthening, a bit of volumizing, a bit of separating, and I haven’t had much trouble with keeping a curl whenever I use this. The Gifted is definitely my favorite of the Tarte Mascaras (newest one aside because I haven’t tried it yet, though I have 2 samples already!).
Moving right along, we have the Pixi Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach. I use this as an under eye color corrector for those insanely dark circles. “Brightening Peach” really does explain it well because I feel like the peachy tone helps cancel out the blueish rings under my eyes, but it also manages to brighten the area too. Since I have slight recesses under my eyes as well, anything to help that appear less obvious is great in my eyes! I actually switched back to this maybe about a month ago just wondering how it compared to some of the newer correctors I’ve tested out and I think this one has to be my favorite!
The good track record keeps going with this next product – the Bare Minerals Multi-Tasking Concealer in “Bisque.” I really love this concealer! It works and perhaps even better, it stays put. It’s not my favorite under the eyes, but on discoloration or pimples, it’s fantastic! Also, if you’re a blogger who happens to be swatching multiple lip colors, this is great for quickly and easily touching up around the mouth. 😉 I’ve used this here and there lately. I’m not sure why I don’t use it more often actually because it really is great! If you want a loose mineral powder, or even just a great concealer, the Bare Minerals Multi-Tasking Concealer will hide your deepest sins. 😉
I will readily admit that it’s been a while since I’ve reached for my Urban Decay Eyeshadows. Last year I mentioned the shade “Roach” and, though I really do love it, I don’t think I’ve reached for it since. The Urban Decay shadows are probably some of my favorites, but lately I’ve been reaching more for my Too Faced palettes or other new acquisitions. I have so many Urban Decay singles that I really should reach for them more often! They make wonderful shadows – be it in palettes or individuals so I would certainly call them favorites, just not ones I’ve been reaching for a lot lately.
Ah, blush! I always used to be afraid of blush, but now I kind of love it! My next former favorite was Hot Mama from theBalm and, surprise surprise, I love it! It just such an easy and beautiful slightly shimmery peach-pink. The pigmentation is great without giving you clown cheeks. It’s just about the perfect formula in a gorgeous shade that seems it would flatter so many skin tones. And theBalm is a really fun brand! I feel like they deserve more attention because their products are really good. And, whether you like it or not, their colorful retro packaging is unique in a sea of plain plastic cases. 🙂 I’ve been switching blushes so frequently lately that I actually don’t know what I’ve been using, but this one’s definitely been in the rotation! 😉
Finally, we’re on to lip products! I believe this next one was in this year’s favorites a few months back. It’s the NARS x Christopher Kane Lip Gloss in the shade “Glow Pink.” I’m not a huge lip gloss person, but I really love this one because it leaves behind a gorgeous stain that has great lasting power. Of course it was limited edition, but you can still find it (try AllCosmeticsWholesale). This is the kind of lip color you need to let sit for a minute or two before the color actually develops. I wouldn’t say it’s a ph adjusting gloss because I don’t think it looks all that different on various people, but it does “develop.” It’s a really comfortable and summery kind of lip color. Great this time of year and I wish NARS would make this staining formula permanent!
Last but not least, we have a Lippie Stix from ColourPop! It’s in the shade “Brunch,” which is an orange-y color with a Satin finish (it basically looks matte). Of course it’s no longer available, but it’s one of my favorite Summer shades from ColourPop! As I’ve said before, I love the ColourPop Lippie Stix. Every formula that I have tried is surprisingly comfortable and the colors available are amazing! If you’re looking for a similar shade that’s still available, check out “Chi-Chi.” It’s more of a true orange with a bit less pink thank “Brunch,” but they’re similar. As far as my current Lippie Stix of choice, I always seem to chuck a Sheer formula in my bag. The more neutral “Juice Bar” and “Croquet” have been my top picks as of late. I don’t think I will ever tire of the ColourPop Lippie Stix! 🙂
That pretty much does it for this look back at my favorites from July 2015. If you’re curious about my unfavorite, it was the Shea Terra Organics Moroccan Lava Rose-Vedic Masque and, no, I haven’t given it another go lately! 🙂 I felt like it broke me out, though with my skin it can be difficult to determine the culprit behind breakouts. I gotta say, this was a good list of favorites and full of products I would gladly use daily if I didn’t feel a need to try new things all the time. ? I’m starting to wonder if I need to look back even further into favorites posts because I still love everything I used last year. Perhaps not surprising, but I’ve got to wonder if it’s at all interesting to see me say “I still love this” over and over again. For now, it will have to do and I hope you’re all having a great week! I hope to see you again soon and thanks so much for stopping by! 🙂
