As I’ve mentioned many times before, I have highly processed color-treated hair. How funny that “treated” is in there as there NO treats in the bleaching process! LOL! 🙂 Like many of us – color-treated or not – I struggle with split ends. I think it’s just a fact of life. Perhaps that’s fine and dandy if you have your hair cut every month, but for those of us long haired gals that wait months between trims or are aiming to grow it even longer, split ends are a familiar issue. Though I don’t have the cure…frequent cuts aside!…I have found perhaps the best thing to help treat and prevent those frazzled looking split ends! What might the miracle cure be? So glad you asked – it’s the Pureology Strength Cure Split End Salve Treatment!
First let me say that I’m a huge fan of Pureology in general. A bit pricey though they may be, I feel like they are one of the few lines where I actually see a difference in my locks! They also have strictly vegan formulas which is so rare in the higher end hair care world (I will point out that they are owned by L’Oreal, but Pureology itself is cruelty free in every way). Though I haven’t tried everything from the company, what I have tried has pretty much lived up to its claims! Quite a miracle with any beauty company really. 😉 Highly, highly recommend the Perfect for Platinum Miracle Filler Treatment for anyone with tangled and/or damaged hair. It’s another miracle worker! But back to the topic at hand….
I started using the Split End Salve Treatment maybe 2 hair trims ago and though I wouldn’t say my hair is free from split ends, it is greatly improved and I find I don’t need to add anything to the ends of my hair to keep them looking healthy even after months between trims! Before this treatment, as time passed between trims, my ends would look messy, fried and increasingly unhealthy. Sure oils would kind of disguise the problem, but this Split End Salve literally seems to prevent the issue in the first place! I’m definitely in favor of that! 🙂

So the science behind it all is surely above my head, but I’ll do my best to inform you of what I can. This is intended for micro-scarred and color-treated hair. I feel like anyone struggling with split ends can benefit from it, but it is color safe which is very important to those of us fighting against nature! 😉 I suspect the help with split ends is mainly from the strengthening benefits provided by this product. According to the Pureology website, the strengthening and fortifying occurs at the cuticle level of the hair. “Cationic silicones attach to damaged areas where split ends occur,” and it “Fills in negative charges” which can help smooth split ends. The salve includes powerful antioxidants and an Anti-Fade Complex, which is fantastic if you have color treated hair. Nothing worse than your color mysteriously vanishing 2 days after dying it thanks to the elements! I’m no expert in hair or science so I that’s really the best I can explain how the Salve works, but I can tell you that I have certainly seen an improvement in my hair! 🙂
As far as application goes, this is a product you apply to towel-dried hair. You twist the top to reveal a pump (always love that on a product! 🙂 ) and I only use maybe a large pea-sized dollop for my chest-length locks. I concentrate it on the ends and then just run any remaining product over my hair from about ear-level down. I actually add this right after the aforementioned Miracle Filler and then use a Tangle Teezer (reviewed here) to gently distribute both products throughout my hair. Pretty easy pre-styling step that leaves my hair knot-free, strengthened, softened, and dare I say with even a bit of shine?!?! 😉 It adds maybe an extra minute tops to my post-wash routine and it is totally worth it! 🙂

As you can tell, I really believe in the Pureology Strength Cure Split End Salve Treatment. It’s definitely a product that actually seems to work! It’s an easy addition to my hair routine and I have seen a noticeable difference since using it. Now I don’t know what I would do without it! 🙂 If you’re wondering about scent, it just has one of those clean hair kind of smell to it. Nothing offense, not overly exciting. Just clean hair. I do wince a bit about the $ price tag, but so far it’s lasted me quite a while – maybe 4-6 months – and anything that actually produces a noticeable benefit to my hair makes it worth the splurge…and it actually could be a lot worse! 😉 If you’re struggling with split ends, I highly recommend checking out the Pureology Strength Cure Split End Salve Treatment!
Have you tried this or any other Pureology products? What are your thoughts? Any other tips for dealing with and/or preventing split ends? Let’s talk about it all in the comments!!! 🙂

I always get split-ends. So annoying! I’m too lazy to go to the hairdressers all the time though plus I wouldn’t be able to afford it haha.
This product sounds like a miracle in a tube. Being owned by L’Oreal does put me off though but this will be a great back-up plan if I can’t find anything else 🙂
